hold on, what?

Well in a bit of a surprising turn of events, I was sent home at 9 pm tonight and can't come back until 10 am tomorrow; then I get sent away from 1 pm - 4 pm, too. We thought that I could spend over (for a fee of course), but that is only for those who pay for a private room. Since our insurance is not the best, I am sitting at home wondering what to do.

Prior to today, Kelly was thinking that she wanted to stay in the hospital for three days (the most the insurance will pay for), but after about 5 hours in the postnatal ward she is feeling like she might want to go home tomorrow. It is not very nice - the nurses have been good though. The biggest problem is that it seems like everyone assumes we know where to go and what to do... like where to get ice, water, meals (for Kelly). It is all very self-serve but little direction. I think we have it figured out now, but it was a bit tiring to have to chase down answers for all these little tasks.

Parker had another blood sugar test just before I left that was "beautiful" - a favorite word in Australia. We are starting to get a feel for what he likes and what he really hates. He likes to be held upright not on his back. He does not like his hands wrapped up tight, but maybe he is getting used to that. He hates, hates, hates having his diaper changed. He has been feeding well so far. It isn't taking too many tries before he is on and eating - fingers crossed he only gets better at this.

It's been a long day, but a lot shorter than I think either of us had anticipated really. Kelly was very nervous this morning and could not have done a better job. Maybe we'll have some more pictures to post tomorrow. Thanks for all the comments, Kelly loved them - they "made her heart shine".

Tyler, that is horrible that you didn't get to stay with Kelly and that you have to wait so long to go back. Parker sounds like a lot like his papa - not that I remember any of those things about you when you were little but in the fact that he knows what he likes and doesn't like and isn't afraid to tell it like it is :) So glad your experience surpassed your expectations. I hope Kelly is feeling well - how did the joints do through the delivery? Love you!

Oh Tyler...hang in there. I swear they are lucky Parker's auntie Aubrey isn't around to raise some stink about sending you away. Your updates have been great! Kathryn and Parker have some similarities...she always liked to have her hands free as well...and what a perfect size your little guy came out. Wow is all I can say. Thank you for being such a wonderful husband to our Kelly...we couldn't have asked for a better man to be by her side! We love you all so much. Looking forward to more updates...take this time away to get some sleep (if you can relax). Love ya!

Congratulations, new Papa! I love the pictures of you holding Parker.
I had read on the internet that that hospital was pretty much self-serve, but I knew that Kelly would be well taken care of because you are so good at solving problems and taking care of her.
Soon you will all be back in your apartment with your baby boy in his bed that has been waiting for him for a long time.
We love you for being you and for taking such good care of Kelly. I bet you were the best birthing coach ever. I know you don't like being away from them, but it might give you an opportunity to find some chocolate cake for Kelly.
